Dr. Nicholas DeMonaco has been practicing hematology and oncology in the Maryland area since 2006. He completed his hematology/oncology fellowship and his internal medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh and is a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine.
Dr. DeMonaco currently serves as the Chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology and the co-chair of the Cancer Committee at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. The Cancer Committee’s primary goal is to improve the overall care of cancer patients in the community served by the hospital, and the group also works to maintain the hospital’s accreditation with the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. Dr. DeMonaco has previously served as a member of the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee.
One of Dr. DeMonaco’s primary interests is doctor-patient communication. During his fellowship, he participated in a dedicated program funded by the National Cancer Institute with the goal of helping oncologists-in-training improve their communication skills with patients who have a serious illness. He enjoys swimming and lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife and son.
