Cheryl A. Aylesworth M.D.

Dr. Cheryl Aylesworth attended Union College and received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. She then received her medical degree from Tufts University of Medicine. Dr. Aylesworth trained in internal medicine and Hematology/Oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Her research at Walter Reed was in coagulation. Dr. Aylesworth is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology as well as board eligible in hematology.

During her tenure at Brooke Army Medical Center, Dr. Aylesworth worked with prominent experts in drug development in collaboration with University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, while serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor. She became director of the Drug Development Unit at Brooke Medical Center, a unit that brought clinical trial opportunities to over 100 patients per year. Many commonly prescribed cancer drugs were first initiated at this center. She returned to the Washington, DC area and was billeted to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and worked on addiction medications and drugs to combat common side effects of cancer drugs.

Since joining a thriving medical practice locally, Dr. Aylesworth has distinguished herself by endeavoring to provide nationally recognized clinical trial opportunities to the local community. While serving as the Director of Clinical Trials at Holy Cross Health in Silver Spring for over 10 years, patients have been introduced to the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program, the National Cancer Institute’s sanctioned cooperative groups, the NSABP, GOG and ECOG as well as industry sponsored trials.

Her work in these areas has led to publications that have advanced the care of lung, breast, and ovarian and uterine cancer patients. The trial opportunities are blind to the patients’ financial and legal status. Dr. Aylesworth participates in community-focused fund raising helping to provide quality care to those less fortunate while keeping local money in the community.
